Farmers' Marketing Hub

So it's great that there are the women like those in my last post who are producing vegetables, but how can they be assured that they will be able to make a living from it? USAID has partnered with one of those fancy hotels in Zanzibar town that'strying to make a difference in the community and said, we'll help raise the quality of the produce from these small holders and create a marketing hub with cold storage, will you be a committed buyer? So the facility has only been open for less than two months, and they're starting things out and trying to get the system down before the main harvest season later this summer. But it seems like they're on the right track. You can imagine being a high end hotel restaurant and finding it much more appealing to find produce in crates like in this first picture and with people who know market prices shown in the second picture, than buying directly from the street like in the third picture.
I was also fortunate to get to be there for a stakeholder's meeting with members from the farmers' associations, ag extension workers and government officials, shown in the last picture.
